We were delighted to welcome Tim Gee, General Secretary of the Friends World Committee for Consultation (FWCC), to Australia Yearly Meeting 2025 as our Backhouse Lecturer.

Tim delivered the Backhouse Lecture on Monday 7 July 2025 at Leggatt Hall, University College, Parkville (University of Melbourne). The lecture was also shared online via a special Zoom link.

His lecture, titled “The seed is in all: A journey through the Quaker world,” explored his personal journey of faith and offered reflections on the rich diversity and unifying themes among Friends worldwide. As Tim put it:

“I’m honoured to have been invited to give this year’s Backhouse Lecture. This presented a meaningful opportunity to reflect on our shared Quaker heritage while celebrating the vibrant global community that FWCC continues to nurture.”

Printed copies of the lecture are available for purchase at Yearly Meeting or can be ordered online.

In addition to the lecture, Tim also led a Friendly School session titled:

“Quakers, Peace and the Early Church: Reading the Epistle of James.”

This was an opportunity to reflect together on the relevance of early Christian writings to contemporary Quaker faith and witness.

Tim’s voice is increasingly known internationally. He recently contributed an article to Sight Magazine, titled “The Quiet Revival is Not a Backlash Against ‘Woke’” — a thoughtful piece on spiritual renewal, social justice, and the evolving character of faith communities.
