Looking Ahead: What to Expect at Yearly Meeting This Week

As we gather this weekend for the beginning of Yearly Meeting, whether in person or online, the sense of anticipation is strong. There’s something sacred about coming together across time zones and geographies, united in a shared rhythm of worship, discernment, and fellowship. And while today marks our start, there is much to look forward to in the days ahead.
Over the coming week, Friends can expect a rich mix of offerings. Share & Tell sessions will provide space for creativity, curiosity and thought-provoking presentations. These sessions always bring something fresh, and often surprising, to our communal table.
This year’s Backhouse Lecture, delivered by Tim Gee, invites us to reflect on Spirit-led action and our collective witness in the world. For those who’d like to go deeper, there will be a feedback session later in the week giving a chance to share how the lecture has stirred or challenged you.
Formal sessions will shape our shared business, including the Summary of Epistles which is a treasured moment of hearing the voices and insights of Friends across the globe. Home Groups will continue to be a quiet anchor each day, offering a space for deep listening and connection in smaller circles.
We’ll also pause for moments of worship and remembrance, including a time set aside to honour those in our community who have died since we last met. And in the evenings, events like the Friends School presentation and a special session from Silver Wattle Quaker Centre will remind us of the vibrancy and reach of our community.
There’s no need to attend everything. Let yourself be led. Whether you drop into a single session or immerse yourself fully, may this week open you to Spirit, to community, and to new possibilities.
We’re so glad you’re here.
