Online: 3 May after Friends Online Recognised Meeting
Meeting at 5pm, talk at 5.40pm — Zoom link here
Joyce is a Quaker Palestinian American with over thirty years of experience in international development and has served in AFSC leadership since 2017.
The American Friends Service Committee, conceived by Quakers in the storm of World War I, is a global Quaker organisation working to further peace and social justice causes in the US and worldwide, focusing on peacebuilding, just approaches to migration, climate and economic justice, and humanitarian assistance. Today, that mission continues with renewed urgency: to resist, to build, and to persist. AFSC accepted, with British Friends, the Nobel Peace Prize in 1947 on behalf of Quakers worldwide.
Joyce will share about the interconnected nature of oppressive systems, the power of organizing and advocacy, the transformative power of love, and the role of movement building in challenging those systems to achieve lasting peace with justice. She invites Friends to move beyond rhetorical solidarity and to examine what courageous, collective action truly requires.
